I've been afraid to admit all week that spring is here, in fear of angering Mother Nature. Chicago is really good at ridiculously cold winters and hot and humid summers, but it's not so great at these transitional months. In my 7th year living here, this is the first real spring that I can remember. Life is grand! That being said, let me describe 2 reasons why yesterday was wonderful.
#1: On the 1-week anniversary (birthday?!) of my website and Etsy Shop, I sold a set of cards to my 4th customer!!! What makes this even more special is (drumroll, please): this is my first customer who isn't related to me! When I got into this whole small-business thing, I must admit I didn't really know what success would look like. But, after 1 week and 124 views of potbellybird.com and 122 views of the Pot Belly Bird Shop on Etsy and 4 customers and 6 sets of cards sold, I'd say I'm over the moon with how this is going so far. THANK YOU to everyone who has contributed to those numbers!!!!!
#2 reason why yesterday was wonderful: It's our "Spring Cleaning" weekend and Jeff and I made 3 trips to Home Depot in a day (actually, Jeff earned an additional gold star for making a 4th trip solo, but more on that later). Now, before you think I'm completely insane, it's what we accomplished thanks to our multiple trips to Home Depot that made the day a great adventure.
We've been waiting for the sun to shine in Chicago all week, and we were greeted with clear skies today, perfect for our first photo shoot! Our amateur set-up was very rudimentary, with stacks of books on end tables and posterboard taped to the back of a bar stool. There were LOTS of retakes as we played around with set-up and light and exposure (photography is SO much more complicated than I thought!). In the photo to the left, my husband, Jeff, is standing on our coffee table while I squated and bent under the tripod to rearrange every set of photos for the different shots for my Etsy store. Now I've been editing in iPhoto and uploading and am almost ready to share with the world!
Hi! I'm the creator of Pot Belly Bird, hailing from Spokane, WA. Here in my blog, I'll tell you about all the fun stuff I'm up to in addition to making cards, like cooking or biking or gardening!
